The Cormorant

Well first of all say that these birds are called Colmoranes Cormorants and not as commonly called some people. The word "cormorant" is but a corruption of the Latin name of the species: "Corvus marinus", ie, sea raven, the name by which time designated in these birds . Gender Phalacrocorax is the largest genus in species of cormorants family Phalacrocoracidae, ie, there are great variety of seabirds and not all behave the same way. As an example I list a few for the reader to get an idea of the variety that exists:
also as a very important, saying that some species of extinct birds, such as Phalacrocorax perspicillatus

cormorants feed on fish capturing underwater. Are promoted, particularly with their feet and can dive for more than a minute, reaching a depth of approximately 10 meters . Unlike most aquatic birds, their feathers are not completely waterproof, so when wet weight increases bird allowed to sink faster and dive with ease. Once on the ground, spread their wings to dry. In addition, regulate the volume of air sacs. Lives in lakes and estuaries well as the costs , and builds its nest in cliffs or trees . Has a size of 90 cm long, and can be found in freshwater and coastal areas worldwide. a bird is stationary or, at most, irregular migration takes place, because only changes of residence
driven by the abundance of food they can find during the winter.
E n Far East, and particularly in China and Japan, cormorants used for fishing, placing them at the base of the neck with a ring, which prevents birds swallow the prey capture. Once the cormorant has filled the belly, the fisherman pulls the strap that ties him to the boat forced him to regurgitate the fish and throws it back into the water. At dawn, as this type of fishing is usually done at night, the fisherman removes the ring that surrounds the neck of the cormorant, gives some fish and put the ring again, this time above the crop. Failure to take this precaution, the regurgitaría bird food, as is wont to do.

Cormorants cause grave damage to the fish fauna of lakes and ponds, as their greed is
incredible.

OPINION
The idea of this blog does not accurately describe each species, which can be found in any scholarly book as has been publicados.Lo article said that I think most important is that this species can cause very serious damage to the fish fauna of lakes and reservoirs.
This sentence is a very common dilemma among fishermen of the Iberian Peninsula. In some León areas (preserves trout) have been authentic fishermen killing of these birds to avoid, they say, that those birds are causing serious damage to the existing trout population in the area.
The dilemma I pose me is how to convince or to know where these birds should be fed to cause the least harm in the population of fish in the rivers? Why have you come to areas where cormorants has never been? Make bird killings solve the problem, or is the wrong measure?
Studies very contradictory and often go through all things. Angel Serdio is under the command of an investigation into the damage that can actually cause these birds in aquatic ecosystems of the peninsula. There are no conclusive data on this research, but it seems that depends on the environment. I mean, in shallow rivers (such as the upper Órbigo in) these birds hunt fish very easily, since they are accustomed to fish in the sea where the ability to escape from the barrier is much higher and the visibility of smaller dams, among other things by the waves, so in these waters and due to the insatiable appetite of the bird if it can be harmful for the environment.
The solution to prevent cormorant fishing in these waters is complicated, we again have a range of possibilities, where many factors come into play. For example, in certain areas of fish farms are installed cannons that scare off the birds, but the information works for a short time at the end the birds learn that it is noise and there is no danger, therefore continue to fish. Another option is to put fish farms adopted by networks covering the piles with trout this is the most effective. Clearly this is a very good measure for such facilities but what we do in the rivers?
kill The truth is that I think is a truly savage, but I see many more possibilities, if any of you know any strategies they have applied in other countries and the results have been good, please comment.
As for the appearance of these birds in new areas according to experts, is due to climate change, the birds have found new areas where they spend the winter with a large food source readily available. But I have not found a scientific study which demonstrates this fact.

Thank you all and I welcome your comments.

What Camcorder Best For A Beginning Filmmaker

The Iberian Lynx. My passion.

The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus ) and s a graceful-looking cat with long legs and short tail with a tassel black at the end that usually keep straight, beating her in moments of danger or excitement. Its features are pointed ears ending in a brush with stiff black hairs which favors camouflage to break the round silhouette of his head. They are also distinctive sideburns hanging from his cheeks appear from year to live when they hang just below the chin and enlarge with age. Males have the pins and brushes longer than females.

Its color varies from brown to gray with black-spotted flanks.

this magnificent feline is a protected species since 1966, since then is trying to combat the threat of extinction, in just ten years the population has halved. Today found in very specific areas of the country and the neighboring country, Portugal.

Habitat. Where can photograph a copy?

In 2006 the only nuclei in the presence of safe reproduction of the species were limited to Sierra Morena, in particular the ; Natural Park Sierra de Andújar (which is the main population of Iberian lynx in the world), natural parks Cardena y Montoro, and Doñana National Park and its surroundings . Could have very small populations in other regions, with presence in Southwest recent Madrid and Los Montes de Toledo, where they are located at least 15 different individuals using camera traps: three adult females, two adult males, four subadults - two males and two females - and six puppies

The Iberian lynx is found in the Mediterranean forests, in very restricted and isolated well preserved human activity. It should be noted that Portugal seems to have become extinct, a shame though fellow real efforts are being made for the recovery of lynx habitat, as with Nature Reserve of Sierra de Malcata .
Finally this type of habitat provides shelter and open pasture for hunting rabbits , which accounts for 90% of their diet. Territory size is determined by the abundance of potential prey, but on average takes about 10 km ². In areas rich in food, lynx territory be somewhat lower than in poor areas. Within this territory there are often different residences vital for the lynx, as rangeland for rest and champions areas where the lynx is active, and coincide with the maximum density of rabbits.
examined preferences of habitat of the lynx in the Doñana area, including the park and surrounding area reveal that the lynx is usually absent in the lands and tree plantations exotic (eucalyptus and certain pine ), where rabbits are also scarce. In the park, radiotelemetry shows that over 90% of the rest of the day points used by the lynx are located within the dense brush.

Playing

The mating season begins in January and February, ahead in the southern regions since late December to mid February.
Lynx, despite being a animal of solitary habits, in this time of year usually stay with their partner. The burrows are made in places as well protected and hidden rocks, hollow trees. Gestation lasts 65 to 72 days, which suggests that the time of birth is between March and April. Litters usually consist of one to four offspring, the most common being two cubs. At four weeks the mother lynx den changes, and two months the pups are able to accompany his mother on hunts. They are independent in 7 or 12 months (more or less when the female comes back into heat) and remain in his home territory to 20 months. Independence usually survive between one and two female lynx.
Females can breed in their first winter, but the time of first reproduction depends on demographic and environmental factors. In a high density population, such as Doñana, age at first reproduction depends on when a female becomes a territory. This usually occurs because death or expulsion of a resident. A female may not play up to five years old, and only when his mother dies and acquire a territory will play (which does not favor the recruitment of lynx). They usually live about 13 years, being fertile until age 10.

PERSONAL OPINION

Well colleagues because so far I have not said anything new worth look closely and think about it. All the above information can be found in any encyclopedia or book of animals (some specifics on this cat.) In this Blog I am interested to call on the state of conservation of our forests. In this particular case on this cat, which so threatened by extinction is encentra.
According to some articles I've read about this cat and written by renowned biologists, one of the reasons why this cat is in this situation is the declining population rabbits (their main prey and their diet is essential). What has happened to these rodents that only recently were so many?
L to myxomatosis, with hemorragicovírica pneumonia is the cause of the decline of rabbits in the Iberian Peninsula, which has caused the decline emblematic animals to the point that the Iberian imperial eagle lost 70% of nests and the Iberian lynx was found without their basic livelihood.
Well one of these articles I found the answer to this question. Now my question and all I try to raise in this page is: Is it so difficult to lift a rodent population, which reproduces quickly and in most cases effectively. I think if the administration would raise these issues easy to solve and those species that depend on rodents that danger may come so severe that his disappearance from the planet.
I do very strongly about this point that I consider very important, colleagues that if we're talking about regain a stable population of rabbits can really help these species return to live freely in our forests.
I think it is worth trying, like hunting stocked with these animals, I think it would be very interesting to make great stocking of healthy individuals in these areas where species like the lynx, are waiting have a stable and abundant food to get their offspring.
The future of these species depends on these pups are healthy, have food and can get along without problems.

I hope these letters do reflect a lot of us and continue or even intensify the recovery of certain territories.

A greeting and thanks for reading these lines.

book detailing effects of climate change on agriculture and forestry sector Chilean postgraduate course

The publication addresses the international response to address this phenomenon, what predictions about the vulnerability and impacts would generate locally

To account for the vulnerability of domestic agriculture to climate change and the main impacts expected in the coming decades are some of the issues detailed in the book "Climate change silvoagroapecuario sector in Chile", published by the Foundation for Agrarian Innovation (FIA), the Ministry of Agriculture.

The text also takes account of advances in science to discover this phenomenon, forecasts and what has been the international response in order to search for agreements and commitments to address it. FIA since 1998, participates in discussions and negotiations taking place at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, as a representative appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture to the issues related to the use of land-use change land and forest in the Chilean delegation, which has allowed him to accumulate a significant amount of history firsthand. Is that information which you want to convey to the public through this book.

The contents of the book is divided into four chapters: "Definitions and climate change situation," "The international response to climate change" "Climate change and the Chilean agroforestry system", and "Chile's institutional response to climate change." It is in the third chapter which details issues such as the impact on water availability, agro-meteorological hazards, vulnerability agricultural expected effects on the main Chilean agricultural crops (wheat, corn, potatoes, beets, apples, stone fruit, vines, plantations
forest, etc..) and thermal and water regimes. It also reports on the measures of prevention and adaptation to the adverse effects of climate change, among other areas.

Spatial distribution of remnant forest trees in Nothofagus original

Roble (Nothofagus obliqua , Photo Wikimedia Commons )

forests-oak forest type Raulí-Coigue (Nothofagus forests dominated by deciduous) subtype for the remaining originals are very scarce. These forests are dominated by Nothofagus obliqua (Oak), Laurelia sempervirens (Laurel), and Persea lingue (Lingue). Ever virgin forests of this type covered the Intermediate Depression south-central Chile. These forests may be considered unique in the world and have a high biodiversity, but are not represented in the national system of protected areas in Chile. Indiscriminate changes in land use in the past (specifically the empowerment of agricultural land) are now only some remnants exist. Despite its conservation importance, few studies have focused on these forests. Salas and colleagues studied the spatial distribution patterns of living and dead trees standing in a mature forest composed mainly of oak Olivillo ( Aextoxicon punctatum) and other species tolerant and tolerance to shade. Studied a forest remnant located in Rucamanque (20 km from Temuco). The spatial distribution of Olivillo (the dominant species) change from random to small intervals of distance to a clustered spatial distribution analysis over longer distances. Oak tended to be more evenly distributed in space. The authors found a negative spatial interaction (ie repulsion) between small trees (generally less than 100 years) and high (generally greater than 250 years). On the other hand, detected a positive spatial interaction (ie attraction) between small trees and snags. Source

Endangered Species

Introduction

you
a lover of nature and especially of the species that live in the sea, ie aquatic species, but recently have heard that some of these species are endangered and are interested to know why?
What do you consider to be the causes of which are endangered aquatic species?
Task

A species is endangered, whether plant or animal, when its existence is compromised globally. This is usually due to the depletion of a resource from which this species depends on the part of human action or due to changes in the ecosystem of the species casualty product (climate change). As is happening now.
leaning on the information provided you must answer, What do you consider to be the causes of which are endangered aquatic species?

1. Which means that a species is in danger of extinction? Click on the following view and find out!

2. Click on the following: species threatened with extinction and which are located aquatic species in danger of extinction.
3. Click the following turtles, access to a page where you will find lots of information on sea turtles. Once on the page does the following:

WEBQUEST. A discovery learning strategy based on the use of Internet

The WebQuest are activities that are carried out using pre-selected Internet resources for teachers, so that the student, to perform the task, focus on the use of resources rather than look for them. They are specially designed for students to develop essential skills to properly use the information found [1], ie to classify, organize, analyze and synthesize it properly, in order to generate with her and informatics tools and other resources, a new product. To make them, the teacher designs a task, select Internet resources that it considers most appropriate to resolve the student and presents an interesting and easy to understand. Care should be taken that the activity in its entirety, setting the time allocated to carry out and fulfill the learning objectives proposed.

WebQuest is used as a teaching resource for teachers, since they allow the development of information management skills and development of skills related to information society.

WebQuests consist of six parts: Introduction, Task, Process, Resource, Evaluation and Conclusion. His invention and diffusion owe Bernie Dodge and are part of the calls Based Learning Activities Network. They feature that can be carried out during a class, to cover a short and very specific issue, or a longer time to develop an entire learning module. They are easily updated or modified according to the needs of the curriculum or students, and potential to replicate in other classrooms or grade levels.
Another type of these activities are MiniQuest , which have a model similar to WebQuests but are used only when the teacher has only one or two classes to deal with an issue.
It is worth noting that the WebQuests promote the students' learning or deepening of knowledge in an area or specific area, rather than focusing on the development of skills in managing a particular Computer Tool.

A WebQuest is structured as follows:

Introduction Task Process

Resources Evaluation Conclusion
